Introduction

Hello and welcome to by blog. I thought it would be nice to start with a very informal introduction to give you an idea of who I am, what I do and what inspires me.

As a graphic designer and illustrator I strive to create interesting and unique designs for a wide scope of media. I have an engineering background which consists of a twelve year RAF career as an aircraft engineer, and also a decade employed in the Information Technology industry ranging from Support Technician to Service Delivery Management.

In addition to my professional life, one of my interests is Ballroom and Latin American dancing, for which I represented London and England in international competition – a little flamboyant you might say!

In recent years I have been involved with the introduction of the new EuroFighter Typhoon to the Royal Saudi Arabian Air Force, which has been both challenging and inspirational. However, I am about to take up post as a Technical Course Designer at a Training Academy near the region of Bahrain. The courses that I will be designing will be both theoretical and practical, and will introduce young graduates to the methods and practices of aeronautical engineering.

My blog will develop as I develop, and will showcase a selection of my work as they become available. Enjoy and feel free to comment.

First Post

This poster is designed for a Fortnum and Mason themed hamper. The London store is famous for its hamper selections and has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century.

The theme is ‘Eject & Survive’ and was inspired by my work on fighter aircraft. It is an unusual subject, and not in the mainstream of explorers or aviators and such like. However, I thought it could make an interesting subject as long as it was made to appeal to the shopping audience of F & M.

The feel of the poster and associated materials is designed to reflect a degree of 1940’s/50’s nostalgia, with the idea of the Information Leaflet coming from old pilots notes. The age old practice of tea staining paper, with some Photoshop enhancement,  was used to create the effect. This ‘dated’ look is contrasted by a ‘techno’ element created by the use of a modern look depicting an ‘augmented reality’ style projection.  The idea is to present contrasting styles which complement each other. The added bonus is that this style can appeal to both older and younger generations, thereby catering for a wide target market sector.
